Terms
This is a translation. The Dutch text is the official version.
DutchKlaar is free for everyone who learns Dutch for themselves. Organisations that use DutchKlaar for their students or clients need a licence. Here you can read what is allowed and what is not.
Last changed: 24 October 2026.
In short
- Are you learning Dutch yourself? Then DutchKlaar is free. With or without an account.
- Do you use DutchKlaar for your work, for lessons to others or in something you ask money for? Then you need a licence for organisations.
- Plus is a subscription for people who want more. You can always cancel it.
Free: personal use
Personal use is: you learn yourself, for yourself. You practise for your civic integration, your exam, your work or your daily life. That is free and stays free. All lessons and exercises are for you.
Licence needed: commercial use
Commercial use is use for an organisation or to earn money. For this you need a paid licence. Examples:
- A language school, municipality, company or coach uses DutchKlaar in lessons or courses for their students, for example by giving tasks or doing exercises in class.
- Someone offers DutchKlaar as part of a product or service that people pay for.
- Someone copies, sells or downloads large numbers of exercises, questions, audio or conversations from DutchKlaar.
- Someone uses DutchKlaar with a program instead of themselves, for example with a robot or script.
Without a licence, commercial use is not allowed. You ask for a licence on the page for organisations.
Go to the page for organisationsNot sure?
- You follow a course that the municipality pays for, and you practise with DutchKlaar yourself? That is personal use. It is free.
- You are a volunteer or language buddy and you practise with someone without money? That is personal use. It is free.
- You are a teacher and you tell your students that DutchKlaar exists? That is allowed. Your students then practise themselves and for free. Do you use DutchKlaar in your lesson, or give your students tasks in it? Then your school needs a licence.
When someone does not follow the rules
We watch for misuse of the free version. Does someone use DutchKlaar commercially without a licence, or in a way that hinders others? Then we may first send a warning, lower the limits per day, suspend an account or block access. With a suspension we say why. Without an account you can then still use DutchKlaar for yourself, unless the suspension is about misuse without an account.
Plus
Plus is a paid subscription for one person. It costs € 4.99 per month or € 39 per year, VAT included. The price you see before you pay is the price that applies. We announce a new price at least 30 days ahead.
Your subscription renews by itself, per month or per year. You cancel it on your account page, whenever you want. Plus then keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. After that you have a free account again. Nothing is deleted.
Right of withdrawal: you may stop within 14 days after your first payment without a reason. Because Plus starts right away, you then only pay for the days you had Plus. You get the rest back. If a payment fails, you get a message and a few days to fix it.
After stopping, your account stays as a free account. We keep your synced progress for 12 more months (see Privacy).
Plus through a voucher, an organisation or as a gift from us cannot be exchanged for money.
Inviting someone
With an account you have your own invitation link. If someone creates a new account through your link within the valid time and takes Plus for at least the length we choose, you can get a reward: Plus for a number of days or months, or a discount on a payment. What the reward is and for whom is shown on your account page and on the invitation, before anyone pays.
An invitation only counts when the withdrawal period of 14 days has passed and the payment was not refunded. A discount is a percentage. If more discounts apply at the same time, they are multiplied (20% and 10% together is 28%), and a price never goes below a minimum price. A voucher gives access and no discount: it does not make a discount smaller and does not use it up. A discount you do not use expires after the time shown on your account page. Rewards cannot be exchanged for money.
Inviting yourself, also with a second account, does not count. Accounts through an organisation do not take part, unless we say otherwise. There is a maximum number of rewards per person. In case of misuse we can stop a reward. We can change or stop the programme; rewards you already have stay.
Your account
An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself. You are responsible for what happens with your account. You can always delete your account yourself.
Exercises, AI and the exam
Many exercises are made by an AI, and then we check them. Still, there can be a mistake in them. Report it, and we will look at it. DutchKlaar is not an official exam. A good score on DutchKlaar is not a promise that you pass.
The exercises, questions, audio and conversations belong to DutchKlaar. You may use them to learn, not to copy or sell them.
Other
Dutch law applies to these terms. If we change something important, we say so on the site and, if you have an account, by email. With an account we ask you to accept the new terms. Questions? Go to Klaar Labs. They make DutchKlaar.
