DigiD and MijnOverheid
For your civic integration you arrange many things online. For this you need DigiD. Here you read what DigiD and MijnOverheid are, what you need them for and how to apply for DigiD.
What is DigiD?
With DigiD you show who you are when you arrange something on the internet. For example with the government, a school or in healthcare.
You log in with a text message code (sms), or with the DigiD app. The DigiD app is the easiest way to log in safely.
What do you need DigiD for?
- Mijn Inburgering of DUO. There you see which exams you have to take, register for an exam, apply for a loan and read the letters from DUO. You need DigiD with text message check (sms-controle) or the DigiD app.
- Mijn DUO, when you register for the staatsexamen Nt2.
- MijnOverheid, for post from the government and your personal data.
Can you not log in to Mijn Inburgering? For many things you can also use a form from DUO and send it by post.
Applying for DigiD
You apply for DigiD on digid.nl. You need:
- your citizen service number (BSN)
- the address where you are registered at your municipality (gemeente)
- a (mobile) phone
Within 5 working days you get a letter with an activation code. The letter comes to the address where you are registered. Activate your DigiD within 21 days. If not, you have to apply for DigiD again.
Do you have no fixed address? Then maybe you can still apply for DigiD, for example with a postal address (briefadres). Ask your municipality.
Your DigiD is only yours
Never give your DigiD to someone else, not even to someone who helps you.
Do you want someone to help you with your matters at DUO? Then you authorise that person (machtigen) with a form from DUO. You choose what that person may arrange, for example your exams or your loan.
For other matters with the government you authorise someone with DigiD Machtigen.
MijnOverheid and the Berichtenbox
On MijnOverheid you see your personal data at the government. There is also a Berichtenbox (message box): a digital letterbox for post from the government. You log in with DigiD. You have to be 14 or older and have a BSN.
You choose which organisations may send you post in the Berichtenbox. Turn on email notifications, then you get an email when there is new post. Also look in your Berichtenbox yourself regularly. You cannot send messages with it.
The IND (immigration service) can send you post in the Berichtenbox. You turn this on under Instellingen (settings), Organisaties Berichtenbox. You read the letters from DUO about your civic integration in Mijn Inburgering.
Practise on DutchKlaar
On DutchKlaar you do not need DigiD: you can practise right away, also without an account. For example, practise KNM about instanties (organisations): which organisation does what in the Netherlands?
Practise KNMOfficial practice exams
On digid.nl you read how to apply for DigiD and activate it. On inburgeren.nl you read what you can arrange in Mijn Inburgering.
DutchKlaar is a practice website. We are not DUO and not an official organisation. Rules can change. For your own situation, look in Mijn Inburgering on inburgeren.nl, or ask your municipality (gemeente).
