Registering for an exam

For most exams of your civic integration (inburgering), you register yourself with DUO. You usually do this online, in Mijn Inburgering. Here you read how it works.

Where do you register?

In Mijn Inburgering you see which exams you have to take and at which level. Under the Wet inburgering 2021 (Civic Integration Act 2021) this is also in your PIP (persoonlijk plan inburgering en participatie, your personal plan).

Where you register depends on the exam:

  • KNM, ONA and the language exams at level A2: with DUO, in Mijn Inburgering.
  • The language exams at level B1 or B2 (the staatsexamen Nt2): with DUO, in Mijn DUO.
  • The PVT (participatieverklaring, participation statement) and the MAP (Module Arbeidsmarkt en Participatie): with your municipality (gemeente).

Registering for KNM or a language exam at A2

  1. Log in to Mijn Inburgering with your DigiD.
  2. Choose the exam, the date and the place.
  3. You get a confirmation by email and by letter.

Can you not log in? Then you register with the form Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen. You find it on inburgeren.nl.

Register well in advance. It can take more than 6 weeks before you can take the exam.

An exam costs money. Who pays depends on your situation. Do you have a loan (lening) from DUO? Then you choose in Mijn Inburgering to pay with your loan.

May someone else help you register? Then you have to authorise that person (machtigen). You do this with a form from DUO.

The date and the day of the exam

Did you register in Mijn Inburgering? Then you see the date of your exam there. One week before the exam you also get a letter from DUO with the place, the date and the time.

Can you not come after all? Until 1 week before the exam you can choose another place or date in Mijn Inburgering. You can also cancel the exam. Do you cancel until 1 week before the exam? Then you get your money back.

Bring a valid ID, such as your passport or your residence document. Without a valid ID you may not take the exam. You then have to register again.

Come to the exam alone. Other people have to stay outside.

Registering for the staatsexamen Nt2 (B1 or B2)

For the staatsexamen Nt2 you register in Mijn DUO, with your own DigiD. Can you not apply for a DigiD? Then you can also register without DigiD.

You can register about 8 weeks before the exam. You can register for several parts at the same time.

Do you have to integrate? Then you see in Mijn DUO whether you have a free exam, or whether you can pay with your loan.

Do you want to cancel? Do it at the latest 4 weeks before the exam. Then you get your money back.

An adapted exam

Can you not take the exam well because of an illness or a disability? Then the exam can sometimes be adapted.

For KNM or a language exam at A2, you first ask for advice in Mijn Inburgering. A doctor from Argonaut examines you. Then DUO decides. May you take an adapted exam? Then you register with the form Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen, not in Mijn Inburgering.

For the staatsexamen Nt2 you say when you register that you need an adapted exam.

Practise on DutchKlaar

Have you registered? Then practise with a practice exam on DutchKlaar: with a clock and a result, like the real exam. Also fill in your exam date. Then you see on the start page how many days you have left.
